The Public Rehearsal

In three episodes a completely new form of cultural institution in rural areas is put to the test. As the reactivation of an empty town hall, video installation and stage monologue.

Episode 1, 22-25.7.2016, 77709 Wolfach-Kirnbach, Germany

In the former town hall of Kirnbach a fictitious advisory board of the institution is formed. Along with local associations and guests, the ‘Kirnbach Hocket’ by the composer Bill Dietz is premiered. The actor Armin Wieser guides all those interested through the past, present and future of the institution.

Review

“The old town hall has nine rooms – and Bill Dietz’s composition has a specific tone for each one of them. According to an ingenious score and with the help of mini-sound stations tuned to exactly these tones and with stopwatches for the precise use of these tones, nine groups of Kirnbachers sounded these nine rooms – according to a precise schedule at certain intervals and lengths. Sometimes alternately, sometimes together. The result: a fascinating building sounding like a kind of stereophonic nine-tone music’.” (Offenburger Tagblatt)

Episode 2, 06.-29.10.2016, Truck Tracks Ruhr – Urbane Künste Ruhr

The institution will be opened with a five-minute audio play version of the opening speech on the Dortmund album of Truck Tracks Ruhr.
