Community gardens
How do we want to live – and work – together? With whom, in what contexts? How permeable are the walls of our rehearsal and performance rooms? Which organizations do we create, in which institutions do we join forces? And: Who is’ we’?
The two-day performative conference ’Community Gardens’ – with excursions, discussions and working groups – takes a look at collaborative, collegial and collective working methods and organizational forms in art and beyond.
The conference begins in a decentralized manner. Five excursions lead into the neighborhood to various places in Stuttgart: What everyday practices and competencies of community and society are there that art can benefit from and perhaps also contribute to? The second day, on which various guests will report on radical approaches, will broaden the perspective: How can cultural organizations, institutions, hierarchies and quality criteria not only be conceived differently, but also realized differently in concrete terms? At the same time as and in the same room of the conference, a children’s workshop on guerrilla gardening with Tina Pantisano will take place, in which we will jointly consider how the outdoor space can be designed, seed bombs produced and flowers planted in the area.
‘Community Gardens’ takes the 30th anniversary of the Landesverband Freie Tanz- und Theaterschaffende Baden-Württemberg as an opportunity to celebrate the free scene of performing arts in Baden-Württemberg and at the same time to reflect on in which and for which neighborhoods work is being done and which institutions and forms of organization are possible for this artistic work.
The ‘Community Gardens’ conference, curated by Herbordt/Mohren and Florian Malzacher, took place on 29 and 30 April 2022 at the Theater Rampe in Stuttgart and its local, national and global neighborhoods (see above).
